This is the fourth and latest book written by Stavros Allanopolis the International Best Selling author living his life in The Mani Region of mainland South West Greece.
'The 'To Do' List And Even More Adventures For Stavros' ... covers the period dating from January 2014 until May 2016, and details Stavros' and his wife Valerie's laughter and tears as they go about their daily life ('Adventures'). They live in their house called Meerkat Manor which is located in the middle of an olive grove near to the fishing village of Agios Nikolaos.
Against the background of economic and environmental uncertainty in Greece, they continue to be happy and are definitely regarded as part of the community by the locals.
The 'To Do' list exists. It is a type written list, and was compiled on the 1st of January 2012. It is taped to the inside of a kitchen cupboard door, and has been there since that date. It is a list of jobs that Valerie needs Stavros to get started on, or finished, or both! The problem for him is that, as of the 1st of January 2014, the list is already two years' old, and not one job has been ticked as 'Job Done'. More to the point, Valerie is not happy about this situation! So, for this year's New Year's Resolution, Stavros decides to make a start on it in earnest.
The 'Adventures' detail the obstacles that get in his way, and there are many. For example, and to name a few, things like supervising the construction of a swimming pool, negotiating the rental of long-term accommodation and buying cars for people moving to the area, and rescuing a 10 day old kitten who got stuck behind a water tank. Also, making time to organise and run fund-raising events for the development of the children's play area in Agios Nikolaos, and for GAIA the voluntary Fire, Rescue and Environmental Brigade in the region. Not to mention taking time to meet members of the Stavros Allanopolis Fan Club!
Perhaps the biggest obstacle that you will read about is when Stavros was rushed to the hospital, and was only three or four days away from dying. He had five operations in the following four months.
Post operative recovery identifies that Stavros has to change the way he lives if he is to survive for the future.
His immediate concern was how he was going to finish the jobs still outstanding on the 'To Do' list.
You will read that Stavros has a cunning plan!
Despite the extremes of the pain and the accompanying tears, of which there was a lot, there is still plenty of joy and laughter in their lives during the period that the book covers.
Stavros and Valerie still maintain that they have no regrets in making their decision to move 'lock, stock and barrel' to live permanently in Greece.
It's not all 'peaches and cream' but as they both say, "You have to be brave!"
By way of background information, in September 2006, on the last day of their holiday, Stuart Allan (known locally as Stavros Allanopolis) and his wife Valerie made the decision to leave the United Kingdom and move to live in Greece. They had been staying in a small fishing village called Agios Nikolaos. It is situated in The Mani Region on the Peloponnese Peninsula in South West mainland Greece. They decided to move to live there.
During the following sixteen months they made their plan to move, and in February 2008, they gave up their jobs and sold their home, and moved.
They had purchased a house in the middle of an olive grove near to the village and took only their clothes, their music and their photograph albums, and their two cats, Owen and Minstrel, to start their new lives.
In the village, they are known as Balerie and Stavros. There is no 'V' in Greek so they use 'B' and hence Balerie for Valerie. Some locals found it difficult to pronounce the 'Stu' of Stuart so they used his middle name of Steven instead, which in Greek is Stavros. His family name is Allan and he 'Greek-ised' it to become Allanopolis. Stavros Allanopolis had arrived. The rest as they say is history!
The 'To Do' List And Even More 'Adventures' For Stavros eBook Stavros Allanopolis
Stavros Allanopolis, A.K.A. Stuart Allan, has written another fine book about his move to Greece from Great Britain and his very entertaining experiences in his new domicile. He is as good a story teller as I have ever come across, and his adventures in Greece should make everyone in the world want to move there. His health problems and their solution keep the reader on the edge of his seat hoping for a good outcome which fortunately eventually comes. One of the greatest stories in the book is of his rescue of a tiny kitten, only a few days old, from a small crack where its mother seemed to have dropped it but could not retrieve it. I won't give away the story, but it is one of the reasons why any reader would have to love this guy. If you are thinking about moving to Greece or if you just want to read a very entertaining book, you should order this book and read it. You will not be sorry.Product details
